The Circle B Bar Preserve is located in Winter Park, just south of Lakeland, Florida. It was once a working ranch. The ranch was purchased in 2000 and restored as a natural wetland area. The area has various habitats including oak hammock, freshwater marsh, hardwood swamp, and lake shore. The trails through the are all around 1 mile, but can be combined to provide enough hiking for a day. Of course, walking slower gives lots more opportunities to view (and photograph) the wildlife. Most common are the turkey vultures. In addition, there are many bald eagles, osprey, most of the herons and egrets types found in Florida, turtles, armadillos, red-bellied and pileated woodpeckers, raccoons, pelicans, lots of songbirds, and many more. Below is a sampling. With the exception of the armadillo (taken a day earlier) all the images are from the same morning.
